Google Edges Closer To 70 Percent
The December 2007 US search market share figures from analytics firm Compete peg Google's portion of queries at 68.1 percent.
So much for the law of big numbers. At Google, getting big hasn't kept the company from getting bigger.
Compete blogger Jeremy Crane reported the December 2007 Web Search Market Share and Volume the firm tracks for the five major search sites. There was little movement percentage-wise for each engine.
From November 2007, Google's share rose 0.2 percent. Third place Microsoft increased from 9 to 9.1 percent. Number five AOL moved from 1.6 percent to 1.7.
The other two search engines, Yahoo and Ask, gave away little increments in December as compared to the month prior. Second place Yahoo dropped to 17 percent, and Ask lost 0.2 percent to
3.6.
"Unfortunately for Yahoo! the continued slide, albeit small, pushed them to a new low for market share," said Crane. He also noted that despite Ask's month over month drop, that search engine's volume of queries increased nearly 31 percent year over year.
Compete's search market share figures for the past year required an update. Crane said issues with Compete's search share calculations needed adjusting after they observed a drop in AOL's search volume.
"The bad news is we had to adjust our market share numbers for some prior months," said Crane. An updated table of that data from December 2006 to December 2007 was published on the Compete post.
